1 Kings 19 -21 and 2 Chronicles 17
It seemed, after the confrontation on Mount Carmel, that God had once again won the hearts of the people of Israel. But the next day, things seemed different. Not everyone repented when they heard of the manifestation of God’s power. Jezebel, the queen, was furious after hearing that Elijah had killed all the prophets of Baal.
Previously, Elijah had only demonstrated bravery, courage, and complete faith in God. Now, after a tremendous victory, a woman’s threats led him to flee to defend his life and give up. James 5:17 says that “Elijah was a man subject to passions like ours,” and after the pressures of three previous years and the culmination of the decisive test of Mount Carmel, which apparently had very little effect on the nation, He was exhausted and consumed.
