What is Pentecost?
This video was taken on Resurrection Sunday 2024. Some of us had a day filled with trials and obstacles, but we were all in one accord ready to worship our Lord who had conquered! As we began to worship, His presence fell and as you could see, there wasn’t a single person who was not touched. He came to strengthen and renew our faith to continue in this journey He’s called us to.
You may be asking, “What is Pentecost”? We chose this article written By Doug Clay on May 23, 2023 What is Pentecost?, to help explain it.
“Depending on your background or experience, Pentecost may convey a day, a movement, a feast, a doctrinal position — or possibly, nothing at all. The word itself comes from the Greek word (pentēkostē) for 50, since the Jewish feast of Pentecost (also called Feast of Weeks or Shavuot) came 50 days after Passover. In that context, Pentecost was a celebration of the first harvest.”
“For Christians, Pentecost is a holiday in which we commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the early followers of Jesus. Before the events of the first Pentecost, which happened a few weeks after Jesus’ death and Resurrection, there were followers of Jesus, but no movement that could be meaningfully called the Church. So, from a historical perspective, Pentecost was the day the Church was established. It’s also true from a spiritual perspective, since the Spirit brings the Church into existence and empowers it. Pentecost is the Church’s birthday.”
“If Christmas marks the birth of Jesus, Pentecost marks the birth of the Church.”
We will never stop crying out for revival. Asking and believing God to fill us, like on the day of Pentecost. God continues to empower His church today to become torches that will ignite this world! Remember He does not show partiality to anyone. It is for everyone who believes.
